We travelled from London to Paris and spent a whole day there before travelling on to Germany. Here is what we did in our 24 hours in Paris!
A Speedy Train Trip
We took the Eurostar from London to Paris. This is a famous train because it travels from London to Paris in one stop and goes under the Channel (the water between England and France) for a long time. It took a speedy 2 hours and 15 minutes to get there. There is a dining cart of the train and I got a hot chocolate, which was hot and creamy.
We arrived into the middle of Paris. Our AirBnB wasn’t ready so we went to a French café. We all ate French food (kind of). I had French crepe, Mum had French Onion soup, Dad had French Toasted sandwich called Croque Madam, and Isla had French fries. This is why I say kind of because French fries aren’t actually French!
Snails for Dinner!
After relaxing at our AirBnB for a few hours, it was time to eat more food.
We walked a short distance to the restaurant but had to go up a bunch of stairs. When we got to the top of the stairs, one of the most famous buildings in Paris was in front of us. The Sacre-Coeur is a very old, white church. I was impressed by its size.
We walked past and went to the restaurant. It was tiny, but it was fun because we talked to the people around us. Our waiter was friendly and took our order. We shared snails to start. They were in their shells already cooked. To get them out you had a special ‘grabber’ to hold the shell and a little fork to get the snails out. It was quite tricky but much easier if you just used your hands to hold the shell. The snails were very buttery and garlicky and tasted nice. They weren’t slimy, but were very chewy. All the food we ate was very, very yum. The puddings we had were exquisite.
After dinner we walked up to Sacre-Coeur so we could look at the view over Paris and see the Eiffel tower. The Eiffel tower was so far away we could only see the top of it. It was all lit up and looked very pretty.
Scootering Across Paris
The next morning, we went out to go sightseeing. We caught the Metro down to the river Seine. We found a pastry shop and had breakfast. I had my favourite, Pan au chocolate, and it was the best one I’ve ever had.
From here we walked to see the Notre Dame, which is a cathedral. Notre Dame is one of the most famous buildings in the world. It took over 200 years to build and construction started around 900 years ago.
Next, we jumped on electric scooters and zoomed around Paris to get to the Eiffel tower. It was really fun. When we got the Eiffel Tower we walked across the Seine and up through a park so we could see it better.
We were all feeling hungry after so much walking, scooting and exploring. We found a French restaurant that had only one thing on the menu – steak and fries. They brought it out and once you ate it all they brought you more. You could spend the whole day there eating steak and fries until you exploded!
Then we went to a beautiful department store to visit the food court to get snacks for our train ride to Germany the next day. They had heaps of counters filled with different types of food, most of them were desserts. I got a macaron which is a meringue biscuit with a filling. It is very French!
By now we were exhausted, so we went home to get a good sleep before we went to Germany. It was an amazing day out that I would love to do again!
